Electric Shock

Hi Guy's,

I'm wondering if anyone has a clue why this is happening - Since I collected my corsa, whenever I exit the car and go to close the door with my hand I get an electric shock every single time (and sometimes can be pretty strong). The car does have normal cloth seat so maybe that can be causing it? However when I had a courtesy that had the same seats and was a corsa too it did not do that?

I used to get this a lot in older cars. It's static electricity that builds up. Found it was worse in summer for some reason and happened every time I touched the rubber at the base of the window. Not had it happen in the Corsa yet though. Had a shock through my bum once at work when a customer brushed me with a trolley!

It depends on your footwear and the surface you walk on in the office/shop etc. Some shoes seem to attract static more than others and this is what causes the 'electric shock' as the static charge in your body jumps to the car just as you are about to touch it.

I used to get those static shocks all the time when I wore trainers. Haven't had any since sticking to my Caterpillar boots. :)

Static build up used to be really bad in the old Tesco store (they built a new one back in2007/8), so much so that I would go suitably dressed in all cotton clothing if possible, lol! I wouldn't push the trolley either! The new store is much better although it still does it. Either that or I've become somewhat immune now I work there, lol! Most days I hear someone complain of the electric shocks they get!

My C1 used to do it occasionally but not very often.
After picking my car up today, after my first short drive, I got a shock when I got out of it! I instantly remembered reading about it in this thread!
Didn't do it once after that! Very strange!
